A WILTSHIRE Road Policing unit was dispatched to the M4 this morning (4/12) following reports of a swan on the busy motorway.
A member of the public made the call to police reporting that a swan had wandered on to the M4, a move that could have had disastrous consequences both for the animal and any motorist who might have hit it or had to take avoiding action.
Happily, officers were able to grab the swan, using one of their jackets, they then released it safely in an environment more befitting to a swan!
A spokesperson tweeted: "It’s just the one swan actually…. #RPU collected this swan from the M4 and released it somewhere more suitable. It perfectly Matched the detailed description from the member of the public!! (It’s a swan!!)"
The event mirrors a scene from the action comedy Hot Fuzz, where characters Nicholas Angel and Danny Butterman, played by Simon Pegg and Nick Frost, team up to investigate a spate of mysterious deaths.
A running joke throughout the film is the officers being asked 'no luck catching those swans then?' to which they respond 'it's just the one swan actually'.
