Gary MacAlister, a 46-year-old from Trowbridge, is taking on an extraordinary challenge to raise vital funds for Wiltshire and Bath Air Ambulance Charity.

On 11th May, Gary will attempt to break the Guinness World Record for the fastest male to complete a half marathon dressed as a three-dimensional aircraft.

Gary's chosen costume is a meticulous replica of Wiltshire and Bath Air Ambulance's helicopter, affectionately dubbed the "Garycopter." The elaborate outfit was designed and built by Steve Vick International Ltd's sewing technician, Alice Foley, using materials provided by the company.

Gary, who works as a quality and safety manager for Steve Vick International Ltd, is confident that he can complete the half marathon in under the current record time of 2 hours, 8 minutes, and 36 seconds. Despite the challenges posed by wearing the costume, Gary is determined to push through and achieve his goal.

Gary's motivation for taking on this unique challenge stems from his personal connection to Wiltshire and Bath Air Ambulance Charity. Having witnessed the helicopter's lifesaving work firsthand, Gary is eager to give back to the charity that provides critical medical care to his community. Gary said: “I’ve been part of Trowbridge Rugby Club for a long time, so I’ve seen the helicopter land there, and I also have a colleague at work who has needed the air
ambulance for both of his children over the years.

“Although I’ve not needed Wiltshire and Bath Air Ambulance Charity personally, I know so many people who have and it’s a vital part of the community it serves.

“We know everyone needs money at the moment as times are tough, but for Wiltshire and Bath Air Ambulance, all of their funding comes from donations so hopefully my challenge will help raise awareness and vital funds.”

Through his challenge, Gary aims to raise £2,000 for Wiltshire and Bath Air Ambulance Charity. The charity relies solely on donations to continue providing its vital services, and Gary's efforts will contribute significantly to their fundraising efforts.

Steve Vick International Ltd's managing director, Caspar Vick, expressed his support for Gary's challenge, stating, "We're delighted to support Gary in his record attempt for such a vital local charity."

Fraser Normington, fundraising manager for Wiltshire and Bath Air Ambulance Charity, added, "We're thrilled to see Gary taking on this unique challenge to support our charity. We'll be cheering him on every step of the way!"
