A Chippenham man has been jailed for four years after he was found guilty of non recent sexual offences against a child.

Donald Winchcombe, 75, of Brake Mead, appeared at Salisbury Crown Court today (9/8).

Back in the late 70s, over a period of two years, Winchcombe sexually assaulted a young girl under the age of 13 on multiple occasions.

The victim felt able to report her ordeal to police in 2021, and an investigation commenced.

As well as the four year prison sentence, Winchcombe must serve an additional one year on extended licence.

Det Con Laura Barwood, of Central CID, said: “The abuse the victim suffered at the hands of Winchcombe over a lengthy period of time during her childhood will no doubt have had a long lasting impact on her, emotionally and mentally, and I cannot comprehend just how difficult it must have been in reporting the abuse to police.

“In doing what he did, Winchcombe selfishly robbed the victim of her innocent childhood years.

“I would like to stress that the victim has been fully supported by specialist officers throughout the process and I would like to put on record my thanks to her for the bravery she has shown in coming forward, sharing her ordeal and helping to put Winchcombe behind bars.”
