A man has died following a collision on the M4 yesterday evening (09/12).

It happened on the eastbound carriageway at around 18:30 GMT on Saturday.

The road was closed overnight in both directions between junction 16 for Royal Wootton Bassett and 15 for Swindon, but has since reopened.

Wiltshire Police have said : "At around 6.30pm, we received a report of a pedestrian in the carriageway at the roundabout of junction 16 for Royal Wootton Bassett. The pedestrian, a man in his 50s, entered the motorway on the eastbound carriageway on foot and was struck by passing vehicles. He was declared dead at the scene." 

Police enquiries are ongoing to ascertain the facts surrounding this incident.
