A 60-year-old man from Poulshot has been jailed for child sex offences and barred from ever working with children.

Karl Shuttleworth, formerly of Poulshot Road, pleaded guilty in December to multiple offences, including attempting to cause or incite a female child to engage in sexual activity, attempting to cause a child under 13 to view sexual images, arranging or facilitating the commission of a child sex offence, and attempting to engage in sexual communication with a child.

On Monday, 23rd February, Salisbury Crown Court sentenced Shuttleworth to three years in prison. He was also issued a 10-year Sexual Harm Prevention Order, ordered to pay £1,000 in CPS costs and a £228 surcharge, and will be barred from working with children or vulnerable adults for life.

The investigation was carried out by the Child Internet Exploitation Team (CIET). Officers attended Shuttleworth’s address in September 2024 following allegations he had been communicating online with individuals he believed to be as young as 12 in an attempt to meet them for sexual activity.

Detective Constable Jason Walsh, from the CIET team, said: “Shuttleworth is a predator who made numerous attempts via various online platforms to instruct people he believed were children to engage in sexual activity. Although we found no live victims, his conduct demonstrated a real sexual interest in children. Given his previous work with vulnerable children, he posed a genuine danger. I am extremely pleased that, as a result of this complex investigation, he has received a custodial sentence and has been barred from working with children for life.”
