People travelling by train from Chippenham next weekend are being warned to expect disruption as Network Rail carries out essential track work between Chippenham and Swindon.
The work will take place on Saturday 12th and Sunday 13th September, with trains unable to run between Swindon and Bath Spa or Westbury during the weekend.
For passengers travelling from Chippenham, replacement buses will operate to Bath Spa, Swindon and via Melksham to Westbury.
Services between London Paddington and Bristol Temple Meads will continue to run, but will take alternative routes and journeys will take longer than usual.
The changes will be slightly different on Saturday and Sunday, with Oxford to Bristol services also affected on Saturday and unable to call at Chippenham or Bath Spa.
There is another reason for passengers to plan ahead on Sunday, when the Chippenham Half Marathon is taking place. GWR is warning that the combination of the event and rail replacement services could mean particularly busy buses.
The weekend work will also see Network Rail begin installing scaffolding for a new canopy at Chippenham station. The new canopy is intended to improve the station while helping to preserve the Grade II listed building.
Oana Apetroaie, GWR's Station Manager for Chippenham, said passengers should check their journeys before travelling and allow extra time, particularly on Sunday.
“We know that disruption is never welcome, especially at weekends, and we are genuinely sorry for the inconvenience this will cause. Our teams will be on hand to help.”
Passengers are advised to check their journey before setting off, as normal timetables will not apply, and to consider travelling earlier or later where possible.
