Police have launched an appeal for witnesses and dashcam footage following a fatal head-on collision near Royal Wootton Bassett yesterday evening.
Emergency services were called to the B4696 between Brinkworth Road and Lydiard Plain at around 6.05pm on Tuesday (30 June), where an orange Peugeot 107 travelling northbound collided head-on with a black Vauxhall Astra travelling southbound.
The driver of the Peugeot, a woman in her 70s, was sadly pronounced dead at the scene. Her next of kin have been informed and are being supported by specially trained officers.
The driver of the Vauxhall, a 43-year-old man, was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and causing death by driving while unfit through drink or drugs.
He was taken to hospital with serious injuries and will be questioned in connection with the incident once he is medically fit.
A teenage girl, who was a passenger in the Vauxhall, was also taken to hospital for treatment to her injuries.
The road was closed while collision investigators carried out enquiries and has since reopened.
Wiltshire Police has also made a mandatory referral to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) due to previous involvement with the suspect.
