Police have issued an update following the death of a woman at a home in Chippenham on Thursday afternoon.

Emergency services were called to Orchard Crescent at around 3.20pm on Thursday 5th March after neighbours reported hearing what they believed to be an explosion.

Wiltshire Police have now confirmed that a woman in her 40s sadly died at the address.

Officers say the loud noise reported by neighbours is now believed to have been caused by a patio slab overheating during a fire at the property, rather than an explosion.

The woman’s next of kin have been informed.

A spokesperson for Wiltshire Police said: “Emergency services were called to an address in Orchard Crescent at approximately 3.20pm following reports from neighbours that an ‘explosion’ had been heard.

“On arrival, a woman in her 40s was sadly declared deceased.

“It is believed the noise reported by neighbours related to a patio slab which had overheated as a result of a fire at the address.”

Police say there are not believed to be any suspicious circumstances, and a file is being prepared for HM Coroner for Wiltshire.
