WALES & West Utilities has issued an update following the large gas leak in Chippenham yesterday.
Homes and businesses were without gas yesterday afternoon and Chippenham College was evacuated following reports of a gas leak in the area.
Cocklebury Road and Sadlers Mead were closed and there were traffic delays both ways from Station Hill to Market Mead.
Some properties remain without gas today, however, students and staff have been able to make a return to Chippenham college.
This morning Wales and West Utilities have released the following statement: "Our team of engineers worked late into the night supporting customers whose gas supply has been affected by the damage caused to our gas main by a third party. This included visiting the properties and providing alternative heating and cooking supplies to vulnerable customers. We are continuing with these visits this morning.
Our repair team also isolated the leak and are back this morning to repair the damaged pipe. This is a complex job, but our team is working hard to fix the leak as quickly and as safely as possible. We will update on how long this will take as soon as we have that information."
