A Wiltshire domestic abuse charity is inviting people to put the kettle on and host their own Afternoon Tea fundraiser to help raise money for services supporting adults and children affected by domestic abuse.
Society Without Abuse (SWA) is encouraging people to organise an Afternoon Tea with friends, family, colleagues or their local community, whether that means gathering in a garden, village hall, workplace or community centre.
Money raised will support SWA's services across Swindon, Wiltshire and Bath and North East Somerset, helping children and adults affected by domestic abuse.
Cassie Dawson, Training and Business Development Officer at SWA, said the fundraiser was a way for people to come together while supporting those affected by domestic abuse.
“Joining us to host an Afternoon Tea this summer is a great way to bring people together whilst making a difference to people and families who have been affected by domestic abuse,” she said.
“Every penny raised over a cup of tea or a scone will help us continue delivering vital support to those recovering from the trauma of domestic abuse, as well as our work with children and young people through local schools to prevent abuse happening in the future.”
SWA will provide resources for people who want to host an Afternoon Tea, with organisers able to choose a date that suits them and decide how simple or elaborate they want their event to be.
Guests can be invited to make a donation, enjoy homemade or shop-bought treats, play games and learn more about domestic abuse and the support available.
“Whilst bringing domestic abuse to an end might not be a piece of cake, fundraising for us whilst we work towards this goal certainly can be!” Ms Dawson added.
SWA has been supporting victims and their families for 50 years and now works across Swindon, Wiltshire and Bath and North East Somerset.
Alongside supporting people affected by domestic abuse, the charity also works to prevent abuse through its HOPE programme, which provides healthy relationship education to children and young people through schools.
Its Open2Change programmes also work with people who are concerned about harmful behaviours and the impact these can have on their relationships.
