A man previously arrested as part of a major police investigation into several deaths in Wiltshire has been rearrested on suspicion of further offences.

Wiltshire Police confirmed that a 35-year-old man from West Wiltshire was arrested yesterday on suspicion of two additional counts of ill-treatment or wilful neglect by a care worker.

The man had previously been arrested in connection with Operation Willow - a major investigation launched following concerns raised to police in 2023 relating to several adult deaths in and around Wiltshire.

He had already been under investigation on suspicion of six counts of gross negligence manslaughter and four counts of ill-treatment or wilful neglect by a care worker.

Police said the suspect had remained on conditional bail since September last year and has now again been released on conditional bail while enquiries continue.

A 60-year-old woman who was previously arrested in connection with the investigation remains on conditional bail on suspicion of one count of gross negligence manslaughter and one count of ill-treatment or wilful neglect by a care worker.

Both individuals were employed by South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust and were immediately suspended after concerns were identified. Police confirmed they are no longer employed by the trust.

Operation Willow remains ongoing and relates to several adult deaths in and around Wiltshire.

A spokesperson for South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust said: “As soon as the Trust became aware of any concerns, we immediately launched an internal investigation which resulted in a prompt police referral, and we continue to work closely with Wiltshire Police as part of their ongoing investigation.

“Two members of staff have been dismissed from the Trust, following an initial suspension. This meant that they were immediately relieved of all duties, including the treatment of patients.

“We would like to reassure communities that there is no on-going risk to patients. Please continue to call 999 in a life-threatening emergency.

“Due to the ongoing investigation, there will be no further comment at this stage.”

Wiltshire Police said anyone with information relevant to Operation Willow should contact officers through the dedicated major incident portal.
