WILTSHIRE Police HQ in Devizes has been evacuated this evening and emergency services have swamped the area in response to a reported incident at the station.
Eyewitnesses say at least ten ambulances and fire crews were called to the scene earlier this evening before 8pm.
Police released a statement earlier this evening which said: “We are asking members of the public to avoid the Police HQ in London Road, Devizes to allow emergency services to attend a reported incident.
“The premises have been evacuated as a precautionary measure.
“We will provide further updates as the situation develops.”
As far as Calne News can ascertain, there is no information to indicate this is a terrorist attack as being reported by other local sources. Some of the emergency response vehicles are now leaving the scene - whatever the incident was, it seems to have been dealt with.
UPDATE - Wiltshire Police have just released the following update:
‘Officers responding to a reported incident at Devizes HQ , as a precautionary measure, have now been stood down.
Contrary to some inaccurate media speculation, there is categorically no link to terrorism.
For public reassurance - we wish to make clear that at no point was there any risk to staff or members of the public.
There are no reported injuries and no arrests have been made.
We wish to thank the public, who may have been inconvenienced, for their patience and understanding.’
