A Wiltshire Police officer has admitted assaulting a 13-year-old boy outside Monkton Park police station in Chippenham.

PC Daniel Rusling appeared at Bristol Magistrates’ Court on Thursday 21st May charged with one count of assault by beating.

The incident took place in the early hours of October 14th last year outside the police station in Chippenham.

Rusling pleaded guilty and was bailed to reappear at court on June 30th.

The matter forms part of an independent investigation by the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC), which is overseeing both the criminal and misconduct investigations connected to the case.

Wiltshire Police confirmed that an expedited gross misconduct process will now take place.

Deputy Chief Constable Mark Cooper said: “I fully appreciate the impact this case will have on our communities.

“As police officers, our primary function is to protect those most vulnerable in our communities. Clearly, this officer’s actions have gone against everything we stand for.

“It is important that we preserve the integrity of the ongoing, independent investigation, but I am committed to keeping our communities updated on this matter.”

The IOPC investigation remains ongoing.
