WILTSHIRE Police have renewed their appeal for witnesses to an attempted robbery at a jewellers in Devizes.

At approximately 1.45pm on August 24, two men in dark clothing and balaclavas entered the Estcourt Jewellers in Estcourt Street and made demands for the staff worker to hand over money from the till.

Timothy Cooper, 41, of Forty Acres Road, Devizes has been arrested and charged with attempted robbery and has been remanded in custody until October 2 when he is due to appear at Salisbury Crown Court.

A man in his 20s has also been arrested on suspicion of robbery and has been released on bail pending further enquiries.

PC Surgey said: "Fortunately, both men left the premises empty handed and left the scene in a silver Vauxhall Astra.

"It is believed that one of the suspects removed his balaclava before changing vehicles and drove off in a black BMW heading from Devizes to Rushall along the A342."

Police say they would particularly like to hear from anyone who was driving on the A342 between Rushall and Devizes between 1.50pm and 2.10pm who has dashcam footage that may be able to help with enquiries.
