A woman has died after an explosion at a home in Chippenham today, Thursday 5th March.

Emergency services were called to Orchard Crescent at around 3.20pm after reports of an explosion.

Police, firefighters and paramedics attended and the residential street was cordoned off while crews dealt with the incident.

Wiltshire Police later confirmed that a woman in her 40s died.

Her next of kin have been informed.

A spokesperson for Wiltshire Police said: “Along with the fire service and ambulance colleagues, we attended an address in Orchard Crescent at approximately 3.20pm today following a report of an explosion.

“Sadly, a woman in her 40s died at the scene. The woman’s next of kin have been informed and our thoughts are with her family at this time.

“There are not believed to be any suspicious circumstances surrounding the death.”

Orchard Crescent, a residential street just off Hungerdown Lane, was closed during the emergency response.

Two fire crews from Chippenham were initially sent to assist police and ambulance teams.
