Calne’s 1st XI delivered a crucial 12-run victory in a pulsating Week 15 encounter, defeating Nationwide House by 12 runs to keep their Wiltshire league campaign alive.

Captain Sean Adams led from the front with 40, and Darren Holcombe contributed a steady 36 as Calne posted 141 all out.

Nationwide opened solidly, but Calne’s bowlers hit back to dismiss the visitors for 129, with Holmes and Adams sharing seven wickets between them to swing the verdict in Calne’s favour.

Young fast bowlers Ben Taliadouros and Ed Barwell impressed early, with Taliadouros finishing with four wickets, underpinning a disciplined display in the field.

Calne now head to Malmesbury for another must-win fixture, while Calne 2s also target a positive result after recent disappointment.

After a challenging spell, the seconds aimed to bounce back at Swindon Super Strikers with a win in mind, as youngsters Ben and Will Taliadouros again made early inroads.

Swindon were bowled out for 163, and Calne’s reply began with Captain Charlie Doel (24) and Will Taliadouros (38) forming a solid 70-run partnership. A late middle-order wobble briefly threatened the chase, but Ashley Monaghan struck 38 not out, supported by John Sutton (15 not out), to seal a much-needed win.

In the Calne 3s division, a local showdown with Lacock ended in a dominant 228-4 declared after 40 overs, with Rob Green blazing 87 not out.

Calne’s bowlers then showed their depth, sharing two wickets apiece, while chairman’s pick of the bowlers returned figures of 4 for 9 as Calne cruised to a 165-run victory.

The 3s now look ahead to a trip to Chippenham 5s this Saturday.

Calne 4s faced a tougher assignment as Swindon 5s posted 227 in their 40 overs. Calne were bowled out for 68, ending their hope of a clean sweep for the weekend.

The club remains optimistic about future fixtures, as Chippenham 6s visit the Brook this weekend for what promises to be a hotly contested match.
