Concerns have been raised about behaviour at the new Ninja Park at the Recreation Ground in Anchor Road, just days after it officially opened over the Easter weekend.

The park, which has been widely welcomed and recently celebrated with a community launch event, has already become a popular spot for families and young people.

However, there were reports of anti-social behaviour on Saturday 11th April involving a small number of individuals. Neighbourhood officers attended and were shown several videos, with further CCTV footage from the area also being reviewed.

The concerns relate mainly to a small number of older children, with some younger users said to be feeling discouraged from using the equipment.

PCSO Cook said: “Since the park opened, there have unfortunately been increasing concerns about the behaviour of a small number of older children, which is negatively affecting younger users of the facility.

“We have increased patrols in the area and will continue to work closely with schools, the Town Council, Calne CCTV operators and local councillors to address the issue.

“Consideration is also being given to introducing age restrictions and clear behaviour guidelines to help protect younger users and prevent damage to the equipment.

“If you experience any anti-social behaviour while using this facility, please report it by calling 101.”

Councillor Sophie Myers said she witnessed the behaviour first-hand while at the park.

She commented: “Myself and Cllr Taylor Wright were present, and it was very disappointing to witness. Teenagers were intentionally blocking the slide, causing panic and confusion among younger children, including my three-year-old son, who became very tearful.

“The teenagers were also running up and down the slide, vaping and using foul language towards several parents, including myself and Cllr Wright, who asked them to stop.

“The children dispersed prior to arrival, however we were able to provide evidence to the police."
