Wiltshire Police Rural Crime Team have arrested a group of men at Cherhill on suspicion of hare coursing.

Members of the public reported seeing a group of men in fields with lurcher dogs off the A361 at Cherhill.

As officers from the Rural Crime Team arrived the men left the fields and made off in a vehicle driving at dangerous speed before being stopped by the Roads Policing Unit on the A4.

The driver was arrested for daytime trespass in the pursuit of game under Section 30 Game Act was also reported for driving with no insurance. The vehicle was seized as well as the two dogs.

Two passengers ran off, managing to escape the scene and were not located despite efforts from Devizes response and neighbourhood teams from Devizes and Calne and the dog unit.

Enquiries are still on-going into this incident.
