THOUSANDS of bikers descended on Calne again on Saturday for the Calne Bike Meet - one of the largest free meets in Europe.

Bikes of all shapes and sizes adorned the town centre as motorcyclists young and old shared stories about their passion.

This year, organisers paid tribute to former Mayor of Calne Howard Marshall, who had been part of the Calne Bike Meet family since 2004 and chairman in 2005. Howard would join the 'ride-out' of the event and was a keen musician too. His enthusiasm and commitment helped put the event 'on the map'.

This year the stage in Church Street was named The Howard Marshall stage and visitors to the event enjoyed an incredible line up of live music throughout the day which included Moretallica, El Toro, End of Story, Crisis Talks and Herb Garden.

Clubs, stalls, community groups and food and drink vendors were plentiful on the day with a lot to see and do before the ride out around North Wiltshire. A spokesperson for Calne Bike Meet told us: “We had a brilliant day, possibly our biggest bike meet yet. We were very lucky with the weather and had a great selection of bands to entertain us throughout the day, it was a huge success!

“We are very grateful to the Calne Bike Meet Committee, all our wonderful volunteer marshals , Calne Clean Up Crew and the amazing business and people of Calne that support us year after year and help us put on a day to remember!

“Also a huge thank you to our three chosen charities: Help for Heroes , Motorcycle Action Group and the Rise Trust, who are helping both the local and wider community everyday with their tireless efforts! “
