A Calne born musician is celebrating the release of his band's new album on Spotify.

'We'll Never Be On MTV' is the new album from Cork based band The Happy Pills but band member Sam Lawrance has his roots firmly planted in Calne.

Sam was born in Calne and lived in Quemerford for most of his childhood, attending St Edmunds Primary school and then The John Bentley school (now Kingsbury Green).  He left Calne for university in 2000 and now lives in Cork, Ireland, but makes regular visits to the town to visit his parents.

Sam told us: "Whilst I lived in Calne, I got into rock music like Nirvana and Smashing Pumpkins and I used to go to the Jolly Miller a lot and see bands, at which point I learned the guitar, from a guy called Chris Jones, who still lives in Calne and plays music around the place."

Over the years Sam has released music as a solo artist and more recently formed a band - The Happy Pills recording three EPs and now the album 'We'll Never Be On MTV' which has been released on Spotify. The Happy Pills have enjoyed success in Ireland, playing a number of big venues there.

Sam added: "One thing I would actually like to do is play Calne, as I never have. I was at the last Heddstock in 2018 and if it ever returned, then I would be very interested in getting The Happy Pills on the bill.  It was all my experiences in and around Calne that contributed to the band and the music so it'll be nice to recognise that."
