Calne Pocket Park & Community Garden was set up eight years ago and has grown into a well-used community space for people of all ages.

The Pocket Park is run and maintained entirely by volunteers and has no regular source of income. Money for bulbs and plants, as well as benches and planters, comes from donations and grants.

John Boaler, chairman of Calne Pocket Park, said the group had been successful in securing grants from a number of different organisations.

“Each of these grants has been for a specific purchase or project,” he said. “None pay general maintenance costs, or will fund our Public Liability Insurance or Music Licence.”

The volunteers have also put on a programme of free events over the summer, including concerts, a performance of Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland and chess afternoons.

The next event will be a children’s activity morning on Thursday, 27th August , starting at 11am. The event is completely free and there will also be free bicycle repairs available, with only the cost of any new parts needing to be paid.

The group is already making plans for 2027, including an evening of 1960s music titled Those Were the Days – The Summer of Love 60 Years On.

The volunteers are also hoping to encourage more people to join the group.
