ORGANISERS of Calne's Big Dementia Day, that took place at the Town Hall on Saturday (18th Sept), have heralded the event as a 'great success'.

The event was officially opened by Alzheimer's Support's patron Lady Lansdowne, who took time to visit the Alzheimer's Support and Wiltshire Age UK stalls set up on the ground floor of the town hall before visiting the Brain Dome upstairs.

The Brain Dome offered visitors an opportunity to experience for themselves how dementia might feel with a live, presenter-led voyage inside the brain to explore basic neuroscience and promote discussion around keeping our brains healthy.

The day was organised by Calne Health & Social Care Forum in association with CaYK PCN and Calne Area Board. The event was fully supported by Calne Town Council who gave free use of the town hall for the day.

Practice Manager at Northlands Surgery, Alison Ingham commented: "It was an informative and thought-provoking event with very positive feedback on the different activities.

"Over 60 people joined in the dome sessions, and it was great to see different organisations represented including Alzheimers’ Support and the neighbourhood policing team."

Later in the day there was an opportunity to enjoy a taster session of lively and uplifting performance from Music for the Mind.

Music for the Mind sessions are held all across Wiltshire. Building on the fact that music appears to 'unlock' parts of the brain and people often retain song words and melodies longer than other memories, singing together in a supportive and friendly group is uplifting, enjoyable and therapeutic for people living with dementia and their carers.
