On Thursday, 1st May 2025, elections will take place for 98 Unitary Wiltshire Councillors and across the Parish and Town Councils in Wiltshire. We take a closer look at the candidates who will be vying for your votes in Calne.

Meet Bobby Seymour, Conservative Councillor candidate for Calne Central.

Bobby has lived in Calne for most of his life and grew up here. "It's a great place to live with lots of opportunity, I believe in aspiration, and it is a value that the town of Calne displays so strongly," he told us.

Currently studying law, Bobby believes the degree he is working towards will make him a stronger advocate for residents to ensure the best deal for the people of Calne. "I am able to approach issues with a pragmatic and open mind," he added.

We asked Bobby what made him decide to throw his hat in the candidacy ring, "This is a great opportunity to serve the community I am most passionate about, to work with local residents and to push for growth and development in Calne Central.

"I believe the challenges that Calne Central faces, such as anti-social behaviour, can be addressed with a strong, determined voice fighting for the resources and funding we need. I’m committed to being that voice—ensuring every resident feels heard, valued, and empowered in shaping our shared future.

"I will push the council to ensure that taxpayers money is well spent so that the people of Calne are receiving value for their money."

Bobby believes more should be done to deal with the root causes of crime. "This is a responsibility of our local authorities to tackle, alongside the work from our Conservative Police & Crime Commissioner, who I have first-hand experience working with, as I once sat on his ‘Youth Commission’.

"Whether that be by providing stronger youth provisions to deter from criminal activity or by building on the successes of Calne Police in their strong police presence to tackle anti-social behaviour. I will work on a strong working relationship with these services to ensure this can happen."

He has also vowed to champion small local businesses in Calne which he believes are essential to the prosperity and success of the community. "The Conservative-led Wiltshire Council has been continually successful in providing schemes such as the ‘Vibrant Wiltshire Vacant Unit Grants’ which empowered businesses in Calne to move into empty units; I will push for funding opportunities similar to this example to be funnelled into Calne, ensuring our local businesses continue to grow and flourish.

"Small Business will attract people to our High Street once again. When small businesses thrive, our community prospers."
