Meet Tara Fisher, Labour candidate for Wiltshire Council, Calne South.
Tara, a dedicated Calne resident, senior leader at a leading national loneliness charity, and long-time community advocate, has announced her candidacy for Wiltshire Council, representing Calne South.
With over a decade of experience fostering community connections in Calne, Tara is campaigning on a platform of improved NHS access, youth opportunities, strategic investment for Calne, and tackling social isolation. "I've always been proud to call Calne home," said Tara. "Now I want to take the next step and stand up for Calne South at Wiltshire Council."
Tara’s extensive community involvement includes leading the popular Summer Fun in Calne playscheme - providing a safe and affordable space for children during the summer holidays. She also served as Chair of Governors at a local primary school, where she supported staff to raise standards and shape the school’s long-term vision.
In the past year, Tara has served as Mayor’s consort, helping to deliver the Mayor’s Christmas lunch for residents who would otherwise have been alone on Christmas Day.
“It’s been a privilege to support so many amazing local projects and see firsthand how powerful our community can be,” she added.
If elected to Wiltshire Council, Tara says her top priorities will include:
Improving access to NHS services, including GP and dental care
Creating better opportunities for young people
Ensuring Calne gets the investment it needs
Investing in projects that address loneliness and social isolation
Tara is also committed to addressing the day-to-day concerns of Calne South residents, including poor road conditions, traffic congestion, and overdevelopment without adequate infrastructure.
"I recognise that the residents of Calne South are fed up with being overlooked. They deserve better – and I’m ready to fight for it," Tara stated.
Tara is particularly critical of what she sees as years of missed opportunities from Wiltshire Council. .
“For too long, Calne has been forgotten while other areas see the investment. That has to change.”
With a proven track record in leadership, delivery, and community-building, Tara believes she is the strong local voice Calne South needs at County Hall.
“We need practical, community-minded councillors who care deeply about this town and its future. I’ll be one of them.”
