On Thursday, 1st May 2025, elections will take place for 98 Unitary Wiltshire Councillors and across the Parish and Town Councils in Wiltshire. We take a closer look at the candidates who will be vying for your votes in Calne.
As the Liberal Democrat candidate for Calne Central, Ian Thorn is no stranger to the community.
Since 2017, Ian has served as the councillor for Calne Central, working tirelessly to address the concerns of local residents. With over a thousand pieces of individual casework under his belt, Ian has a proven track record of tackling a wide range of issues, from rattling drain covers and broken streetlights to shocking housing conditions and accessibility improvements.
He has also been a strong advocate for residents, campaigning on various planning applications, including those at Low Lane, Chilvester Hill, and James Avenue and currently the proposal for housing off Silver Street.
Ian's commitment to keeping residents informed is evident in his efforts to deliver thousands of letters and leaflets, updating the community on local news, events, and campaigns. He also conducts residents' surveys to ensure that the voices of those who live in Calne are heard.
Some of Ian's notable achievements include working with residents and the town council to deliver a 20-mph zone on Anchor Road, overseeing the resurfacing of Quarr Barton, and navigating the complex development at Priestley Grove.
As chair of the Friends of the Marden Valley and a trustee of Marden House, Ian is deeply invested in the well-being of his community.
Looking ahead, Ian says he is determined to ensure that any new development in Calne Central comes with proper infrastructure, including doctors and dentists.
His top priority is the establishment of a first-class medical centre in the heart of Calne.
