On Thursday, 1st May 2025, elections will take place for 98 Unitary Wiltshire Councillors and across the Parish and Town Councils in Wiltshire. We take a closer look at the candidates who will be vying for your votes in Calne.
Meet James Green, Lib Dem candidate for Calne North.
James, a 28-year-old resident of Calne, is standing for a seat representing Calne North on both the town and county councils in the upcoming elections.
Standing for councillor for the first time, James hopes to bring a fresh perspective to local governance and advocate for the residents of Calne.
James, who moved to Calne six years ago to work for a local business on the High Street, has become deeply rooted in the community.
"Coming from outside of Calne, I have found it to be such a warm and welcoming town; a place where I can truly build a life for myself," James said.
"I would really welcome the chance to give something back to the town that opened its arms to me, and hope to be given the opportunity to serve Calne and fight for its residents in local government."
Actively campaigning across Calne North, James has been engaging with residents to understand their concerns. "I truly believe everyone's issues and concerns deserve to be heard and need to be taken seriously," he added.
"If elected, I would continue to work to solve problems however I can, and help keep Calne a town to be proud of."
His key priorities as a councillor would include improving the condition of roads and infrastructure around Calne, ensuring that future developments are implemented with appropriate infrastructure and preserve the town's character, and enhancing access to healthcare for Calne residents.
Beyond his professional life and political aspirations, James is an active member of the Calne community. He proudly serves as the musical director of the Calne Choral Society, a beloved institution that has enriched the town's cultural scene for nearly 140 years, performing at venues like St Mary's Church, St Mary's School, and the Calne Music and Arts Festival.
James also extended his well wishes to incumbent Calne North councillor Tom Rounds. "I was very sorry to hear of Cllr Rounds's accident. I hope he enjoys a swift recovery and wish him the best of luck in his own campaign."
