A YELLOW weather warning issued by the Met Office is raising concerns about potential travel disruptions due to strong winds expected this Sunday, 22nd December, lasting until 9pm.
The warning follows a recent streak of extreme weather, including Storm Bert and Storm Darragh, which have already caused significant impacts across Wiltshire.
The latest alert highlights the potential for 'strong and gusty northwesterly winds', with gusts reaching 50 to 60 mph. In exposed coastal regions and hilly areas, gusts could spike as high as 70 mph.
This warning extends across Scotland and the west of England, affecting areas including Calne, Devizes, Westbury, and Trowbridge, although it currently stops just short of Swindon.
The Met Office cautions that this prolonged period of strong winds could lead to substantial disruptions over the weekend, particularly affecting travel as families embark on their holiday journeys.
In addition to the winds, squally showers are expected, with the possibility of hail and thunder in certain areas.
The Met Office warns of delays to public transport and disruptions on the road network, which may be exacerbated by the increased travel activity typical of the pre-Christmas weekend.
Those planning to travel are encouraged to stay updated on weather conditions and make necessary adjustments to their plans to ensure a safe journey.
