CALNE Police were kept busy in the town centre on Saturday 18th November with reports of a small group of young teens behaving badly in Phelps Parade and a shop lifter in Sainsburys store.

A group aged between 13 and 15 years were reported to the police at 17.40 when they were seen throwing rubbish at shops and residents windows.

Just over an hour later at 18.46,  an off duty police officer detained and arrested a female on suspicion of theft from the Sainsbury’s store. She was later further arrested on suspicion of assaulting an emergency worker and a public order offence. She was taken to Swindon custody suite.

Wiltshire Police told us: “A woman has been arrested following a disorder on The Pippin, Calne on Saturday afternoon.

“Kelly Beamish, 43, of Derry Hill, was arrested on suspicion of theft, assaulting an emergency worker and a public order offence after an incident around 5pm in Sainsburys.

She has been released on bail and is due to appear at Swindon Magistrates Court on December 12.”

At 20:28, police received another report of youth related anti-social behaviour in the area of The Pippin.

PCSO Mark Cook of the Calne Neighbourhood Team said: “These reports were in addition to other matters reported in Calne during the evening.

“We will be liaising closely with Calne CCTV who were monitoring all the above events on their cameras.

“Later this week, Calne Neighbourhood officers will be conducting visits to the home addresses of youths involved in the reports of anti-social behaviour. Officers will be conferring with them and their parents regarding their actions.

“Our reports of anti-social behaviour have remained low for a number of months, and we will be working hard behind the scenes to continue to keep it this way.

“We would like to pass on our thanks to the off duty officer for his assistance on the evening. We take any reports of anti-social behaviour or thefts from our stores seriously.

“We will be supporting our businesses and residents in the town centre with additional patrols over the coming weeks.”

If you experience crime or anti-social behaviour, please report it online, 101 or 999.
