Following Friday's last-minute cancellation of the Calneval of Colour and Summer Festival, Calne Town Council has confirmed that councillors will meet this Friday to review what happened and identify lessons to help prevent a similar situation in the future.

The council has also clarified that the Town Events Working Group meeting will not be open to the public.

In a statement, the council said there had been suggestions that residents would be able to attend Friday's meeting, but confirmed this was not the case.

It explained that working groups do not make decisions and are not governed by the same rules as formal council or committee meetings. As a result, the meeting will be held in private.

The council said the working group has been arranged to allow councillors to discuss the cancellation in detail and establish all the facts before further information is shared publicly.

It added: "We understand that residents care about this issue. Once the facts are clear, we will share accurate information with the community."

The statement follows comments made on social media about Friday's meeting, prompting the council to clarify that it is a working group meeting rather than a formal council meeting.

An update from Friday's discussions will be presented at the Town and Community Matters Committee meeting on Monday 6th July at 6.30pm.

Members of the public are welcome to attend committee meetings and can ask questions or share their views during the public participation session. Chair of the Town Events Working Group, Cllr Bobby Seymour commented: "My view is that we should be as open and transparent as possible about what happened with the carnival.

"I would encourage anyone with an interest in the matter to attend the Town and Community Matters Committee meeting on Monday 6th July, where I hope we can begin to privde the answers that residents, businesses and volunteers deserve."
