On Monday 9th December, Calne Town Council will convene to consider its budget for the fiscal year 2025/2026, with a proposed 14.95% increase in the town council element of the Council Tax bill beginning 1st April 2025.
The council has set a total precept requirement of £1,744,579 this is the amount of money a local council needs to raise from its residents to cover the difference between its planned spending and its predicted income for the upcoming year.
This would see an increase in Council Tax - if the new budget passes as proposed, those in Band D, whose current tax stands at £226.35 per year would see a rise to £274.51, reflecting a 21.27% increase. However, with additional housing income factored in, the Band D charge could be adjusted to £260.19, thereby reducing the overall increase to 14.95%.
The proposed budget outlines plans for enhanced services and facilities aimed at bettering the community.
Key investments include:
Maintenance and Replacement: Funds will be allocated towards the all-weather carpet replacement fund, ensuring the community facilities remain in top condition.
Beversbrook Investment: Improvements to the kitchen facilities will make it more suitable for hire for parties and events, enhancing the venue's usability.
New Community Events: The council is set to introduce exciting events for 2025, including a Food Festival in August and commemorative activities for the VE Day anniversary in May.
Youth Initiative: A new youth facility is proposed, with dedicated funding aimed at providing better resources for the younger population.
Enhanced IT Systems: The budget includes an investment in "Council in a Box," a system designed to streamline IT processes, assist with daily tasks, and allow for easy online reporting by residents.
Devolution of Services: The council plans to prepare for additional land and services transitioning from Wiltshire Council, including play parks and allotments.
Residents are encouraged to participate in the discussion and voice their opinions on the proposed budget.
The meeting will take place at 7pm on Monday 9th December where community members can engage with council leaders and contribute to the decision-making process. This crucial budget discussion presents a significant opportunity for residents to influence the direction of their town’s services and facilities for the coming year.
