TODAY, 24th February 2025, marks the third anniversary of the Russian invasion of the Ukraine.

To mark the occasion, Calne Town Mayor Jon Fisher, was joined at the Town Gardens by councillors and staff of Calne Town Council, John Boaler, and several other residents to reflect on the anniversary as the Ukrainian flag was raised. There was a minute's silence.

Town Mayor, Jon Fisher told us: "On this third anniversary of the Russian invasion it’s incredibly important that we reconfirmed our commitment to Ukraine.

"Today I led Calne in a show of solidarity with the Ukrainian people. I’m proud to say that following a moment of silence we raised the Ukrainian flag to fly over our town once more.

"Today Calne again took its place as part of something bigger, the cause of freedom in Europe and stood up for truth and democracy."

John Boaler told us: “Today marked the 3rd anniversary of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.  The raising of the Ukrainian flag was a  particularly poignant moment after a week in which the US President had outrageously blamed Zelensky for starting the war.

"Trump has already talked publicly and to Putin about ‘concessions’. But ‘appeasement’ is viewed with contempt in our country - and with good reason after its abject failure in the late 1930s to contain Hitler and prevent war.”
