Residents, businesses and community groups across Wiltshire are being asked for their views on proposed changes to parking charges.

Wiltshire Council has launched a consultation as part of a statutory Traffic Regulation Order (TRO) process, with feedback open until Tuesday 5th May.

The proposals follow a review of parking tariffs, with the council saying charges have remained unchanged since 2022 despite rising costs and inflation.

Under the plans, parking charges could increase by an average of 20% in 2026, followed by a further 5% rise in 2028.

Other proposed changes include extending charging hours to 7am–7pm, aligning Sunday charges with weekday tariffs, and adjusting season tickets and permit fees in line with any increases.

For residents in Calne, the consultation includes areas regularly used by people living in and around the town. There is no proposal to change the two hours of free parking at Church Street, which is funded by Calne Town Council.

Wiltshire Council is encouraging people to take part in the consultation and share their views.

Cllr Martin Smith, Cabinet Member for Highways, said the authority wants to hear from as many people as possible before making a decision.

He said: “Parking charges in Wiltshire have not changed since 2022, despite significant inflationary pressures during that time, so we feel that these proposals are fair and that they remain in line with charges in nearby authorities.

“This consultation is an important part of shaping a parking service that is fair, modern and aligned with the county’s long-term transport and environmental ambitions.

“No decision has been made on this, and we really do want to hear people’s views.”
