Wiltshire Council announced today that 98.8% of families applying for secondary school places in Wiltshire have been offered a place at one of their preferred schools for the upcoming September term.

An impressive 94.54% of families received an offer from their first-choice school. The announcement comes as families across the county learn the outcome of their applications, with the figures mirroring the positive trend observed in 2024.

This year saw a slight increase in the total number of applications, with 5,090 submissions received – 54 more than the previous year. The vast majority of parents embraced digital convenience, with 99% (5,034) submitting their applications online. Only 56 applications were received in paper format. Parents who applied online are receiving email notifications or can check the Parent Portal to view their child's school place offer.

The deadline to accept or decline the offered place is 17th March 2025.

Those who submitted paper applications by the October 31, 2024, deadline will receive a letter confirming the outcome, which will be posted today, 3rd March 2025.

"Choosing the right secondary school for your child is an important milestone," said Cllr Laura Mayes, Cabinet Member for Education and Skills.

"I'm delighted that so many families have received positive news about their preferred choices once again. These strong numbers are the result of careful planning and strategic work by our team to ensure there are enough school places for this September and the years to come."

Cllr Mayes added, "I wish all pupils and their families the very best as they prepare for this exciting transition from primary to secondary school."

Families who did not receive an offer from one of their preferred schools have the right to an independent appeal. Information on how to appeal for a place at a voluntary controlled or community school can be found on the Wiltshire Council website.
