The Royal International Air Tattoo at RAF Fairford has been cancelled for 2026 following ongoing conflict in the Middle East.

Organisers confirmed this morning that this year’s event, due to take place from 17th to 19th July, will no longer go ahead following discussions with the United States Air Force over uncertainty surrounding access to RAF Fairford.

The annual event, widely regarded as the world’s largest military air show, regularly attracts more than 170,000 visitors to Gloucestershire, including many aircraft enthusiasts from Wiltshire and the surrounding area.

In a statement, organisers said the decision had “not been easy” but had become necessary due to the developing international situation involving Iran.

Gavin Gager, chief executive of Royal Air Force Charitable Trust Enterprises, described the cancellation as a “phenomenal disappointment” for both organisers and visitors.

“The summer won’t be the same without it,” he said.

RIAT has been held at RAF Fairford for more than 50 years and has become one of the biggest events in the military aviation calendar, drawing visitors from across the UK and overseas each summer.

The event is expected to return in 2027.

Those who have already purchased tickets will be offered the option of a refund, transferring tickets to next year’s event or donating the value to the RAF Charitable Trust.

The cancellation follows continued instability in the Middle East after recent military action involving the United States, Israel and Iran.

RIAT is a not-for-profit event, with proceeds supporting the RAF Charitable Trust.
