THE body of a man in his 70s has been discovered in the River Avon near to Westmead Open Space this morning, 3rd March.

Police have confirmed that the deceased is not missing 21-year-old Sebastian Sailes, for whom an extensive search operation continues.

The body has been identified and the next of kin have been informed. Police have stated that there are no suspicious circumstances surrounding his death.

County Chief Inspector Ben Huggins said: "I can confirm that the body of a man in his 70s was found this morning in the River Avon. His next of kin have been made aware, and our thoughts are with them."

Inspector Huggins reassured the public that the discovery is not linked to Sebastian's disappearance, which remains an ongoing investigation. 

"Sebastian's family have been informed of this development and we are continuing to support them," he added.

The search for Sebastian contines, with police appealing for anyone with information to come forward.

Sebastian was last seen leaving the Black Horse Pub in Chippenham at around 11.30pm on Thursday 27th February. He is described as white, around 5ft 10ims tall, with blonde/brown hair and a long fringe. He was last seen wearing a grey jumper, blue jeans, a beige fur-lined jacket and white Adidas trainers with a Velcro strap.

Police are urging drivers and residents in the Chippenham/Rowden Hill area to check any dashcam or Ring Doorbell footage from around 11.30pm on Thursday into the early hours of Friday morning.

Anyone with information is asked to contact police on 101 quoting log 141 of February 28th.
