Police are warning residents living in rural areas of Chippenham to be 'extra vigilant' following Rural residents in the Chippenham area are being urged to be extra vigilant following a number of burglaries.

Homes in Lower North Wraxall and West Kington were broken into overnight with valuable items such as jewellery and cash being stolen.

PC Ashton Schorah works on the burglary team: "Rural and remote properties just north of the A420 seem to be targeted. These properties are often large, old and are not overlooked by neighbours.

"Due to their structure the offenders seem to force entry quickly. We would urge homeowners to follow our advice on our website and think about fitting CCTV.

"We believe the suspects are using large vehicles with cloned number plates. They are also wearing covid style face masks. They are parking up in laybys and then approaching the houses on foot and entering them when empty.

"We'd urge anyone who sees a large vehicle that they do not recognise parked up to contact police straight away on 999."

Wiltshire Police have said that residents may see an increased police presence as burglary remains a top priority.

A spokesperson added: "We recognise the impact burglary can have on a victim and we hope that we can raise awareness amongst residents of the importance of taking home security seriously, being vigilant neighbours and reporting suspicious activity, and ensuring people are aware of the steps they can take to be fully informed of any incidents in their area."
