WILTSHIRE Police have released a statement following a second report of a child being approached by a man in Chippenham.

Yesterday afternoon, police received a report that a 12-year-old boy had been approached by a man in the Woodlands Road area as he made his way home from school.

The boy says he ran away from the man who is described as being mixed race, around 6ft tall, of a medium build, aged in his 30’s, wearing a black hoodie, dark denim shorts and a black ‘covid’ style face mask.

Today, there has been a second incident, this time involving a 14-year-girl who was approached by a man on her way to school The incident happened at about 8.15am this morning (30/01) when she was approached by a man in a car as she walked down Union Road. He repeatedly offered her a lift which she declined.

The man was described as being middle aged, white but with a tanned complexion and in his mid 30s. He has thinning straight black hair and was wearing rectangular glasses. He was wearing a black long sleeved t-shirt and blue jeans.

Wiltshire Police say there is no evidence to suggest that the two incidents are linked but members of the public will see an increased police presence in Chippenham following the reports. Officers will be liaising closely with local schools to provide reassurance.

Anyone with information about either incident is asked to call 101 quoting the relevant log number.
