A power cut at Great Western Hospital yesterday afternoon caused the hospital to ask the public not to attend any appointments or visit patients (9/7).

The outage affected the Emergency department and Urgent Treatment Centre. As a result, the hospital asked patients with a serious medical condition to phone NHS on 111 or 999 in an emergency.

All planned appointments had to be postponed and patients with appointments were asked not to attend the hospital.

The switchboard was also affected by the power cut.

At about 9pm last night there was a new announcement from GWH reading: 'Following a power outage earlier today, power across the Great Western Hospital has been restored.

We are expecting our Urgent and Emergency Care Services to be very busy in the coming days and are advising patients with serious medical conditions to phone NHS 111 or 999 in an emergency.
Patients are advised to attend appointments as planned tomorrow (Wednesday 10 July), unless contacted and told otherwise.
Visitors are welcome to attend the hospital as normal.
There will be some disruption to our services in the coming days and we are working hard to minimise the impact on patients.
We apologise to all patients and families affected by this incident.
A big thank you to all our incredible staff and volunteers who have gone above and beyond to continue to provide treatment and care for patients.
We would also like to thank our partner organisations who have supported us in helping to keep patients safe.'
