With the festive season in full swing, Wiltshire Police are issuing a stark warning to drivers: Don't risk it.
A month-long drink and drug driving campaign launched at the beginning of December, has already resulted in 39 arrests in just 17 days.
The force has stepped up patrols throughout the county, leading to a significant number of arrests, including nine over the past weekend alone.
One recent arrest involved 24-year-old Ruvarashe Charuma, who was stopped on Larkhill Road, Durrington, on Friday, 13th December, for erratic driving. Charuma, of Silver Street, Trowbridge, refused a breathalyser test and has been charged and released on bail.
Roads Policing Inspector Steve Jolly underlined the serious consequences of drink and drug driving. "As we approach Christmas, more people will be out drinking, and unfortunately, some will make the fateful decision to drive home drunk," he stated.
"We are urging these people to seriously consider the consequences. At best, you lose your licence for at least 12 months; at worst, you could kill yourself or someone else. It's simply not worth the risk."
Wiltshire Police will continue their intensified efforts throughout the holiday season and beyond, urging the public to report any suspected driving offences. The message remains clear: plan your journey home responsibly this Christmas.
