Three people in Chippenham have been issued with Community Protection Warnings (CPWs) in a bid to protect town centre businesses and shoppers from anti-social behaviour associated with street drinking.
Police say recently, there have been a number of reports relating to three individuals in the town who have been drinking alcohol continuously in the town centre, specifically the Buttercross area, as well as Hathaway Retail Park.
This has led to intimidating and anti-social behaviour which has caused issues for local landlords, business owners, residents and visitors in the town centre.
Two 50-year-old men and a 37-year-old woman have now been issued with CPWs which have the following conditions:
- Not to consume alcohol from an open container in the area defined by a map provided to the individual
- Not to urinate/defecate in a public place
- Stop using intimidating language or behaviour which could cause harassment, alarm and distress to others.
Sgt Jamie Ball said: “We are aware of the disruption this small group of individuals have been causing to the town and we have been working hard to tackle the issues with regular patrols in and around the town centre, communicating with these individuals and engaging with local businesses to understand the impact their behaviour is having.
“The three individuals will be monitored to ensure they are adhering to the conditions of their warnings and if they are found to be breaching them in any way we will look to issue a Community Protection Notice which will enable us to deal with this behaviour in a more robust manner.
“I hope this latest update provides reassurance to local businesses, especially during Safer Business Action Week.”
