Major engineering works along the mainline between Didcot and Swindon will significantly impact Great Western Railway (GWR) services this Sunday and next.

The works, which are part of Network Rail's planned maintenance, will reduce the train service along major routes, affecting passengers traveling between London, Bristol, and South Wales.

This Sunday, no trains will operate between London Paddington and Reading before 9:30 am. After 9:30 am, a reduced and amended timetable will be in place, with only one train per hour serving Bristol and South Wales. These trains will operate on a diversionary route, resulting in longer journey times.

Passengers are advised to consider traveling on alternative days, as services will be significantly busier and may be cancelled or delayed at short notice. Those who have already purchased tickets for this Sunday can use them on Saturday or Monday instead or claim a full refund.

Additionally, the closure of the M4 between Bath and Bristol will limit the availability of replacement bus transport. Replacement buses will operate between Didcot Parkway and Swindon, Reading and Swindon, and Bath Spa and Swindon.

GWR Operations Director Richard Rowland apologised for the inconvenience, stating, "We're sorry for the impact this work will have on journeys between London and Bristol and South Wales. We advise customers to change plans if possible and only travel on Sunday if absolutely necessary."

Passengers are encouraged to plan ahead, check for updates, and consider alternative travel arrangements. The disruptions will continue on the weekend of March 29-30, with another limited service operating between London Paddington and Bristol/South Wales.
