Motorists travelling near Melksham are being urged to plan ahead this autumn as Wessex Water prepares to begin a £500,000 project to replace ageing water mains along the A365 Bath Road.

The 17-week scheme, which will start on Monday 8th September, is set to cause disruption through a combination of two, three and four-way traffic signals, with temporary lights expected to be in place until Friday 19th December.

The project will begin with two-way traffic lights on a short stretch of the A365 at Sells Green, just east of Spout Lane, running until 19th September. Bus stops in the immediate area will also be suspended during this phase.

From Monday 22nd September, the work will progress westward, with signal-controlled traffic in place at varying points along the route between Sells Green and Carnation Lane, east of Bowerhill.

A spokesperson for Wessex Water said: “This is an essential investment to improve water supply in the area and we’re carrying it out to try and reduce disruption as much as possible.

“The project will be completed under temporary traffic lights which, at certain locations, will be manually controlled to help reduce congestion and delays.”

Letters have been sent to local residents, schools, and businesses, advising them of the works and expected impact. The utility company apologised for any inconvenience and thanked the public for their patience.

The infrastructure improvements are aimed at strengthening the reliability of the water supply in the region.
