A Wiltshire Police officer has been given a suspended prison sentence after assaulting a 13-year-old boy while on duty in Chippenham.

PC Daniel Rusling, a response officer, admitted one count of assault by beating when he appeared in court last month.

At Bristol Magistrates' Court today (30th June), Rusling was sentenced to eight weeks' imprisonment, suspended for 12 months. He was also ordered to complete unpaid work.

The assault took place outside Monkton Park police station during the early hours of 14th October last year.

The 13-year-old boy was among a group of six children who had called 999 after reporting they had been threatened by people in a car.

Body-worn video captured Rusling repeatedly swearing at the boy, who was wearing his school uniform, and pushing him aggressively several times.

Wiltshire Police has confirmed that an accelerated misconduct hearing will now take place.

Warning: Body-worn video released by Wiltshire Police contains offensive language and may be distressing for some viewers.
