Two ambulance workers arrested as part of a major investigation into the deaths of six adults in Wiltshire remain on conditional bail while enquiries continue.

Wiltshire Police confirmed this week that the investigation is ongoing.

The probe began after a report was made to police in 2023, leading to two arrests.

A man in his 30s from West Wiltshire was arrested in June 2024 on suspicion of six counts of gross negligence manslaughter and four counts of ill-treatment or wilful neglect by a care worker.

A 59-year-old woman was later arrested in March 2025 on suspicion of gross negligence manslaughter.

Both suspects were employed by the South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust (SWASFT) at the time of the alleged incidents and were released on conditional bail while enquiries continue.

When the investigation was first announced, Detective Chief Inspector Phil Walker, from Wiltshire Police’s Major Crime Investigation Team, said the force had been carrying out detailed enquiries following the initial report in 2023.

He said at the time: “We can confirm that a major investigation is underway relating to several adult deaths in and around Wiltshire.

“Our focus is on supporting the families and loved ones of those who have died.”

The ambulance trust previously confirmed that two members of staff were suspended after concerns were raised, adding that one of them is no longer employed by the trust.

A spokesperson for SWASFT said the organisation had launched an internal investigation and referred the matter to police.

They added: “We would like to reassure people that this is an isolated situation and there is no ongoing risk to patients. Please continue to call 999 in a life-threatening emergency.”

Police enquiries remain ongoing.
