Wiltshire Council has formally begun work on a new Local Plan that will help determine where homes, jobs and infrastructure are built across the county in the years ahead.
The council has issued its Notice of Intention to Commence Local Plan Preparation, marking the start of a 30-month process that will include public consultation and a call for potential development sites.
The first formal consultation is expected to take place in September, giving residents, businesses and stakeholders the chance to share their views on what the Local Plan should include and how they would like to be involved.
In the coming weeks, the council will also launch a Call for Sites, inviting landowners, developers and local communities to put forward land that could be considered for future development. The council stressed that submitting a site does not mean it will be allocated for development but will help inform the evidence used to prepare the plan.
The new Local Plan will need to accommodate significant future growth, with current government policy requiring Wiltshire to plan for around 3,500 new homes each year, alongside supporting infrastructure and employment land.
Leader of Wiltshire Council, Cllr Ian Thorn, said the plan would play a key role in shaping how the county grows while ensuring development reflects the needs and priorities of local communities. He encouraged residents, businesses and stakeholders to take part in the consultation when it opens in September.
