Calne Athletic 2-4 Avon Valley FC
VALLEY WIN HEAVYWEIGHT CLASH
In one of only 3 matches to survive the side-effects of Storm Bert, it was second versus third at a wet and blustery Beversbrook Sports Facility on Saturday, where Calne Athletic FC suffered a 4-2 loss against Avon Valley in the Gooding Accounts sponsored Trowbridge League Division Two.
The result meant that visitors leapfrogged their opponents to claim second spot in the standings.
Marcus Read struck in the 23rd minute, taking advantage of Athletic goalkeeper Sam Peacock anticipating a cross and striking from wide on the right-hand side to give Avon Valley a 1-0 interval lead.
Aiden Hawkins got Calne back on level terms on 53 minutes, with a 25-yard free kick into the top left-hand corner which looked to have ignited a shift in momentum in this game, however, that momentum shifted right back to Avon Valley when Ryan McShane restored the lead for the visitors in the 59th minute and a few minutes later he added his second to make it 3-1, both long-range free kicks driven low off of the wet skidding surface making it difficult for Peacock to judge.
