PLANNING is now well underway for Calne's first Pride event to be held in June this year.

The event will be taking place on the 1st June - the first day of Pride Month, in the town centre and is set to include performances, street stalls and a parade at 3pm.

Church Street will be closed for the duration of the event, where there will be a stage for performances throughout the day until 10pm.

Headliners for the stage have already been booked but the planning committee are looking for more acts to sign up to perform on the day.

Funding for the event has been provided by Calne Town Council.

Town Councillor and planning committee member, Robert Merrick has said they are hopeful that with enough support the event can become an annual event and will eventually become self-sustaining.

He commented: "For a good couple of years, it is something that has been requested by the community - we tried to do it last year but sadly we failed."

"With a little bit of word of mouth, we managed to get a huge number of people to come forward for a committee so we are able to put it on this year."

The planning committee are still looking for additional stallholders - for further information email This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.
