The Co-op store in Mill Street, Calne has been given a closing date.
A sign in the window of the store states that it will be closing on Saturday 4th April 2020.
A Spokesperson for Co-op, said: “The Co-op is growing and, moving forward with momentum, and while this usually involves the opening of new stores, we also have to take difficult decisions. A decision has been taken to close our Mill Street, Calne, store. It is in no way a reflection on the hard work and commitment of colleagues – who have been informed - and every effort will be made to find alternative positions in the area for those affected. We would like to thank the community for its support for this store over the years.”
Meanwhile, the former petrol station site on London Road which has recently been cleared was given planning permission in 2017 for the development of two retail units, one cafe and four on and two bedroom flats. One of the retail units is going to be a Co-Op store however, a Co-op spokesperson told Calne News that it is not likely to be open before 2021.
