A local animal rescue centre has sent out an impassioned plea for fundraising help as they struggle to cover the many costs involved in providing animals in need with the medications, food and day to day care.

Emma and David Daltry have been running Goatacre Animal Sanctuary in Calne for almost 8 years.

The sanctuary is currently home to over 50 animals ranging from turkeys, hens, guinea pigs, rabbits, goats, pigs, dogs, and even a tortoise. Some have been abused, neglected, abandoned, saved from slaughter or come to the sanctuary as unwanted pets.

Emma told us: "We originally wanted to keep some animals for families to visit and when we started looking for them we realised how many needed a rescue space so we very quickly turned into a rescue!"

However, vet bills, rent costs, feed bills, medication fees and maintenance of the sanctuary is a costly business and they are reliant on fundraising to allow them to continue the vital work they do.

With that in mind, Emma has sent out an SOS for help.

Fundraising ideas that anyone could organise could include a cake sale, a sponsored run or asking your child's school to hold a non uniform day in exchange for a pound donation.

If organising an event isn't for you but you would like to help, just donating a pound or two would make a difference. Or you could take a few moments to follow this link to nominate the sanctuary for the Movement for Good Awards by the Benefact group that could help them to receive £1000 - the more nominations, the greater their chance of winning and it takes seconds to do.

If you would like to see the sanctuary for yourself, follow their Facebook page here to stay up to date with news of some open days being held soon, where you can meet the residents and see all the hard work that goes into keeping them safe and well.
