On Monday July 29th Dr Brian Matthew MP gave his maiden speech in the House of Commons. He is the newly elected MP for Calne South. Devizes and Melksham.
He is also a member of our River Blessings group.
My eyesight has deteriorated to the extent that I can’t drive any more. Brian has often taken me in his car, particularly to the blessing we held at Blick Mead spring, near Stonehenge on May 5th.
In his maiden speech in the House of Commons he mentioned both our group, and Blick Mead spring. I was delighted.
Drumming in a line along the river
On Thursday July 25th, we held a River Blessing on the River Severn near Frampton-on-Severn.. The day was misty, and it threatened to rain from time to time. It gave our work a very moody feel.
The amazing River Severn
It was the first time I had been so close to the Severn, mostly only crossing it going to Chepstow or Wales. It is a very powerful river; very, very powerful. It amazed me. I couldn’t stop glancing at it.
Tara, our Water Maiden in prayer
Kate brought flowers, to be made into a wreath to be offered to the River. Each of us in turn offered water from our local river, or silently sat next to the wreath in prayer.
Kate’s wreath
Kate then brought us all together to add our love and concern for the enduring health of our rivers. The wreath was placed on the river, The tide took it away, carrying our love, and concern with it.
All the rivers of our land are being polluted with chemicals used in agriculture, and by sewage poured in them by uncaring water companies.
Rivers are living beings who need our help.
